“The Immigrants, with John Green, narrator”
Friday, September 19, 2008 at 7.30 PM
Trinity Episcopal Church
3243 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis
Pre-concert discussion at 7 PM

Join Ensemble Voltaire, Indy's period instruments ensemble, as it celebrates 20 years of concerts. THE IMMIGRANTS places you, the audience, in the midst of 18th century London, and its thriving musical community of native and immigrant musicians. Handel will be there, as well as his insane Italian concertmaster Castrucci, and the successful composers and music presenters, Carl Abel and Johann Christian Bach. John Green, Chair of Theatre at Butler University, is our guide with readings by the diarists and writers of the time. View John's biography.
ENSEMBLE VOLTAIRE
“Telemann in Paris”
Friday, January 30, 2009 at 7.30 PM
Trinity Episcopal Church
3243 N Meridian Street
Indianapolis IN
Pre-concert discussion at 7 PM
Georg Philipp Telemann, prolific composer and savvy businessman, went to Paris in the 1730's to soak up French culture as well as gain a publishing copyright. While there, he met and worked with the greatest musicians in the country. Join Ensemble Voltaire as we present a sound-scape of his visit--Music by Rameau, Marais, and, of course, Telemann. This concert is also the debut performance of a new flute by Parisian instrument maker, Claire Soubeyran.
“The Birthday Boys”
Friday, March 20, 2009 at 7.30 PM
Trinity Episcopal Church
3243 N Meridian Street
Indianapolis IN
Join us as we celebrate the birthdays of George Frideric Handel (February 23) and Johann Sebastian Bach (March 21) in a concert by Ensemble Voltaire founders Barbara Kallaur and Thomas Gerber.
Music will include sonatas by each composer, as well as music they copied for their families (in the case of Bach), and outright "borrowed" in the case of Handel.
This concert is especially appropriate for young student musicians.
